I prefer principles to rules. A well-written principle is a springboard to creativity. To me rules feel like dead-ends. (Rules are not to be confused with constraints, which are crucial to good design.)

This memo from 1990 comes from Nickelodeon, legendary producer of children’s programming. The document is humbly titled Some Suggestions for Thinking and Creating with ’NICKELODEON ATTITUDE’.
