I’ve never taken a single picture with this camera. I got it from my cousin who hoped I could breathe some life into it. I tried to track down the cartridges (they look like this) but they are long since discontinued. You can still wind and click the shutter though, so the camera retains a shred of entertainment value.

Even just holding this thing, I can picture my cousin, in bellbottoms and pigtails, snapping pictures of my dad before he was married. He would have been in his late twenties, blissfully unaware of the impending future, and looking equal parts clueless and optimistic. In other words, a lot like I do.

I suppose this camera’s best days are behind it, preserved as desaturated squares of colour in our family album. But even without film, it still serves to produce memories.
